In this video by Dr. Saad Kamal, with an introduction by Dr. Brandon Winchester, we demonstrate an important anatomic variation occasionally found during axillary brachial plexus blocks: a late branching musculocutaneous nerve off the lateral cord. When this variation occurs it results in difficulty locating the musculocutaneous nerve with ultrasound at the axilla, but when identified with ultrasound and confirmed with a nerve stimulator these patients remain very easy to perform axillary blocks for surgery of their mid to distal upper extremity.
